Volleyball Recap: Averee Swillum and Claire Hale Secure Win for Mt. Vernon

Mt. Vernon won the last time they faced East Newton and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Mountaineers put the hurt on the Patriots with a sharp 3-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mountaineers.

While Mt. Vernon won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the second set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-15, 26-24, 25-19.

Mt. Vernon was led to victory by Claire Hale and Averee Swillum. Hale had 13 digs and two aces, while Swillum had 12 digs and two assists. That's the most digs Hale has posted since back in October of 2024. Ruth Fish also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.

Mt. Vernon's victory bumped their record up to 11-6-2. As for East Newton, they dropped their record down to 9-12 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

Mt. Vernon didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against McDonald County on the 2nd. As for East Newton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 3-1 victory against Cassville on the 2nd.
