Baseball Game Preview: Newberg Tigers vs. Forest Grove Vikings

Newberg is 2-8 against Forest Grove since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Tigers will look to defend their home field against the Vikings at 5:00 p.m. Newberg is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.

Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Newberg turned things around against McNary on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 12-6 margin over the Celtics. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.

Parker Sellner made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Sellner was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, Judah Campos was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Lucas Vaughn was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Forest Grove entered their tilt with Century on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Jaguars. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Vikings have posted since April 14th.

Forest Grove's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-10. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Newberg, their win bumped their record up to 12-8.

Newberg couldn't quite get it done against Forest Grove when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 10-7. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
