Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wekiva). They breezed by the Umatilla Bulldogs to the tune of 59-15 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Mustangs have posted since December 15, 2023.

Wekiva's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jakayla Johnson, who went 8 for 14 on her way to 17 points and four steals. The dominant performance gave Johnson a new career-high in points. Makayla Bell was another key player, going 7 of 10 on her way to 14 points along with six steals and five assists.

Wekiva was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Wekiva's win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-11. As for Umatilla, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-3 record this season.

Wekiva will be taking part in a tournament against Wildwood at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Umatilla, they will venture away from home to face off against Mount Dora at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
