Softball Game Preview: Gilbert Yellowjackets vs. Shepaug Valley Spartans

Gilbert hasn't had much luck against Shepaug Valley recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Yellowjackets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Spartans at 4:15 p.m. Gilbert has given up an average of 17.2 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Gilbert is headed into Wednesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 14th straight game dating back to last season on Monday. They came up short against Thomaston, falling 18-3.

Meanwhile, Shepaug Valley earned a 4-1 victory over Thomaston on Tuesday.

Brianna Johnson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up eight Ks.

Shepaug Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Thomaston only posted a batting average of .200.

Gilbert's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Shepaug Valley, their win bumped their record up to 7-9.
