Baseball Game Preview: Spaulding Red Raiders vs. Exeter Blue Hawks

Spaulding is 1-9 against Exeter since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Red Raiders will host the Blue Hawks at 4:00 p.m.

Monday just wasn't the day for Spaulding's offense. They lost 6-0 to Pinkerton on Monday. The match marked the first time this year in which the Red Raiders were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, Exeter strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Everything went their way against Trinity as they made off with an 11-5 win. The result was nothing new for the Blue Hawks, who have now won four games by six runs or more so far this season.

Exeter got a great performance from Nolan Engler as he pitched 5.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hayden Schimoler, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Mike Caron, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs and one stolen base.

Exeter's victory was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-0. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Spaulding, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7-1.

Spaulding's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's contest. The Red Raiders have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Exeter, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Spaulding continue to outrun the ball?
