Softball Game Preview: Rockford Auburn Knights vs. Harlem Huskies

Rockford Auburn hasn't had much luck against Harlem recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Knights will head out on the road to square off against the Huskies at 5:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Rockford Auburn came out on top against Winnebago on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run second inning. The Knights put the hurt on the Indians with a sharp 12-2 win.

Maylee Baker made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Baker was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, Shannon Sago and Natalee Jasso did most of the damage at the plate: Sago went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Jasso went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those three hits gave Jasso a new career-high. Emmie Ostergard was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Rockford Auburn hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Harlem got the win against Rockford East on Friday by a conclusive 19-1. That looming 19-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Huskies yet this season.

Harlem has been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Rockford Auburn, their record now sits at 10-5.

Rockford Auburn might still be hurting after the 11-0 loss they got from Harlem in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Knights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
