Baseball Recap: Hesston Comes Up Short

Hesston extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping them down to 10-7. They came up short against the Concordia Panthers, falling 12-6. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-2 on Monday.

Hesston saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Levi Flaming, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs. Flaming is becoming a predictor of the Swathers' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 5-6 when he doesn't). Gabe Mowry was another, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double.

As for Concordia, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-2. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.

On Concordia's side, Boone Richard made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Richard was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chane Parker, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Koehn Williams, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Hesston will head out to challenge Life Prep at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Concordia, they will challenge Minneapolis on Friday.
