Baseball Recap: Weslaco's Winning Streak Snapped at Three Games

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Weslaco can now relate to. They fell 4-0 to the San Benito Greyhounds on Friday. The Panthers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Greyhounds earlier this season, when they won 4-2.

Diego Castillo was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March. He was even better at the plate, going 4-for-5 with five RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Gael Villareal made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Toby Perez, who went 1-for-5 with one run and one double.

Weslaco moved to 18-10-1 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for San Benito, their win bumped their record up to 12-15.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Weslaco beat the Greyhounds by a score of 9-4 later that day.
