Volleyball Recap: Las Animas Comes Up Short

After flying high against Walsenburg last Thursday, Las Animas came back down to earth. The Trojans fell just short of the Swallows Charter Academy Spartans by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Despite the loss, Las Animas still got an impressive performance from Ava LaBarge, who had 31 digs. Johanna Alvarado was another key player, getting ten digs and one block.

Swallows Charter Academy found their leader in sophomore Riley James, who had 18 digs.

Las Animas has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. As for Swallows Charter Academy, they pushed their record up to 9-2 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.

Coming up, Las Animas will challenge Fowler at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Swallows Charter Academy, they will face off against Thomas MacLaren School at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
