Football Recap: Freeman Starts Season with Loss at Home

Freeman unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a blow against the Shelby-Rising City Huskies on Friday, falling 54-8. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Falcons of the 66-24 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in August of 2024.

Easton Buss threw for 27 yards on four of 13 attempts. On the ground, Brogan Ideus rushed for 27 yards.

Shelby-Rising City's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Carter Eickmeier led the charge by rushing for 164 yards and four scores while picking up 8.6 yards per carry. Eickmeier didn't just play on offense: he also made four total tackles and defended one pass. Another player making a difference was Logan Lindsley, who rushed for 79 yards and a pair of TDs on only five carries.

Looking ahead, Freeman will hit the road for the first time this season to challenge Tri County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Shelby-Rising City, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Sandy Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
