The Wilcox Chargers will head out on the road to challenge the Santa Clara Bruins at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Last Wednesday, Wilcox didn't have quite enough to beat Saratoga and fell 7-6. The Chargers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Lauen Rodriguez put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Rodriguez was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Samantha Bianchi made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Emma Salinas was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one double.
Even though they lost, Wilcox kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Santa Clara posted their closest victory since April 23, 2024 on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Monte Vista Christian 6-5. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bruins.
Jasmine (Jazzy) Ramirez was excellent, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Chloe Boyes, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Wilcox now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Santa Clara, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
Santa Clara's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Wilcox hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .325. It's a different story for Santa Clara, though, as they've only averaged .255. Will they be able to contain Wilcox's hitters?
Everything went Wilcox's way against Santa Clara when the teams last played back in March of 2022, as Wilcox made off with a 13-2 win. Does Wilcox have another victory up their sleeve, or will Santa Clara turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
