It was close — 10 points. 'Iolani has never been ranked No. 1 in the Aloha State, but the Raiders' eight state titles were enough to nose out Kahuku as the most dominant football program in Hawaii since MaxPreps became America's source for high school sports in 2006.

'Iolani's seven straight DII titles from 2006-2012 are impressive and enough to garner enough points under our system to vault them ahead of national power Kahuku. The Red Raiders have finished No. 1 five times and own four titles and two runner-up finishes, including last season's inaugural Open Division loss to St. Louis.

Punahou, St. Louis and Mililani round out Hawaii's Top 5 with impressive point totals showing the consistency of each program.

Here is how the points break down:

1. 20 for a state title

2. 10 for a state championship game appearance

3. Other points are based on where a team finished in the final MaxPreps Hawaii Football Computer Rankings presented by the Army National Guard. For example, if a team finished No. 1 overall, it would receive 25 points. If it finished 25th overall, the team would get one point. No points are awarded if the team did not finish in the Top 25.
