Basketball Recap: Southeast Lauderdale Tigers vs. Laurel Golden Tornadoes

After flying high against Pearl last Tuesday, Southeast Lauderdale came back down to earth. The Southeast Lauderdale Tigers had to suffer through a 73-27 loss at the hands of the Laurel Golden Tornadoes. The Tigers lost against the Golden Tornadoes in their previous head to head back in December of 2017, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 55-39 score last time.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Laurel to victory, but perhaps none more so than Zy Evans, who went 7 for 9 en route to 16 points plus five steals. Evans is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Karly Hunter, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.

Southeast Lauderdale's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-1. As for Laurel, the victory (which was their 26th in a row dating back to last season) raised their record to 2-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southeast Lauderdale and Northeast Lauderdale will meet in a classic North v. South matchup at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Laurel, their road trip will continue as they head out to face Oak Grove at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
