Basketball Recap: Minto Comes Up Short

Minto won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Friday. They were dealt a 72-37 loss at the hands of the Fort Yukon Eagles. The Lakers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-18.

Despite the defeat, Minto saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Tayla Baker posted ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Roshell Woewert, who earned nine points.

Fort Yukon's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nellie Ward, who put up 26 points. That's the most points Ward has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kylee Carroll, who had 17 points.

Minto now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Fort Yukon, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Minto won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Walter Northway at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Fort Yukon, they also won't have to wait long for more action: they'll challenge Tok at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Fort Yukon is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.8 points per game this season.
