Softball Recap: Kentwood Comes Up Short

Kentwood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss dating back to last season. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Auburn Riverside Ravens. On the bright side, the five- run performance marked the Conquerors' highest-scoring matchup to date.

Kaitlyn Vert spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned runs on eight hits and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Sofia Mottern Salinas was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 4-for-4. Another player making a difference was Gabby Greenwood, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Kentwood's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Auburn Riverside, their victory was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-2.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Kentwood is set to take on their familiar foe Mt. Rainier at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Auburn Riverside will challenge rival Tahoma at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
