Basketball Recap: Vina Takes a Loss

Vina was the 46-43 winner over Tharptown when they last played one another back in November, but their luck changed this time around. The Vina Red Devils took a 41-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tharptown Wildcats.

Despite the loss, Vina saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Layla Hester posted 17 points and six steals. Hester has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 27 times she's played.

Vina has traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 11 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season. As for Tharptown, with the win, they broke their 21-game losing streak and moved their record to 1-10.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Cherokee the next time they take the court. Tharptown will head out to face Cherokee at 12:20 p.m. on Friday, while Vina will head out to face them at 2:20 p.m. on Saturday.
