Baseball Game Preview: Rock Island Rocks vs. Dunlap Eagles

The Rock Island Rocks are taking a road trip to take on the Dunlap Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Rock Island is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.

On Wednesday, Rock Island was able to grind out a solid win over Geneseo, taking the game 8-3.

Meanwhile, Dunlap got the win against Geneseo on Thursday by a conclusive 13-1. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won 11 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Landon Gray looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Davis Weeks was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gavin Gibbs, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

Dunlap pushed their record up to 15-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Rock Island, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.

Rock Island came out on top in a nail-biter against Dunlap when the teams last played back in April of 2021, sneaking past 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rocks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
