Recap: Crownpoint Eagles vs. Newcomb Skyhawks

The Crownpoint Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fifth straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 58-38 walloping at the hands of Newcomb. Crownpoint was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Skyhawks apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Newcomb to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mikal Ashley, who scored 13 points along with six steals and two blocks. Ashley is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kinjii Natonabah, who scored nine points along with six steals.

Crownpoint has been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-15 record this season. As for Newcomb, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Crownpoint will take on the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Navajo Prep knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven games -- so hopefully the Eagles likes a good challenge. As for Newcomb, they will be playing at home against the Thunderbirds at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
