League recap: Liberty climbs in state rankings

Liberty moved up to 347 from 379 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in North Sequoia. The Hawks climbed the ranks as a result of beating Chowchilla 33-0.

Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Washington Union beat Kerman 17-15. The victory was the seventh in a row for the team.

Brent Smith was a passing and rushing force as Sierra defeated Yosemite.

Smith was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 158 yards on 11 carries as the Chieftains bested the Lions. Aaron Maldonado also contributed to the rushing game with 109 yards on the ground.

Washington Union's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Panthers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Luis Escobedo has thrown for 1,647 yards and 12 touchdowns this season, while Stell has 36 catches for 822 yards.

Troy Uphoff has rushed for 956 yards on 142 carries so far this year.

Liberty took down the Redskins 33-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Zach Richey threw for 91 yards and 1 touchdown and ran for 23 yards in the win.
