Baseball Recap: Dodge City Drops Season-High Score on Liberal

Dodge City had lost three games straight , but after bumping their record up to 8-14 on Thursday that streak is in the rearview. Everything went their way against the Liberal Redskins as they made off with an 18-8 win. The Demons' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

The team relied heavily on Max Gonzales, who got on base in all six of his plate appearances with six RBI, one stolen base, and one run. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (four). Reis Ochs was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Dodge City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .652. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

As for Liberal, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat they have suffered since April 11th.

On Liberal's side, Ethan Olmstead made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Landon Martinez, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Dodge City will head out on the road to challenge Andover Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Demons are facing the Jaguars at the right time seeing as the Jaguars are stuck on a three-game losing streak. Liberal will be paying especially close attention to Dodge City's game: after Dodge City faces off against Kapaun Mt. Carmel, they'll take on Liberal again at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
