Baseball Recap: Riverton Takes Down Ranked Bingham

Riverton faced Bingham in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Silverwolves' pitcher stepped up to hand the Miners a 10-0 shutout. That's more bragging rights for the Silverwolves, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

The result came thanks to Rocky Downs's shutout, as he gave up just three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ryder Sand, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Bryce Mounteer was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Riverton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bingham only posted an OBP of .182.

Riverton is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 17 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for Bingham, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 15-8.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Miners beat Riverton by a score of 7-4 on Tuesday.
