Basketball Recap: Richlands Wins Going Away Against Heide Trask

Richlands hadn't done well against Heide Trask recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Richlands Wildcats walked away with a 58-45 victory over the Heide Trask Titans. That looming 58-45 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Wildcats yet this season.

Richlands had a senior duo take command as Nate Mummert went 8 for 12 on his way to 20 points and Jo?Nathan Kennon went 8 of 19 on his way to 16 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for Mummert. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Simco, who posted seven points and four steals.

Heide Trask's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was KJ Murphy, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Gio Driggers, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds.

The win was the third in a row for Richlands, bringing their record for this year to 3-5. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.7 points per game. As for Heide Trask, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-5.

Richlands didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 63-33 loss against Southwest Onslow on the 13th. As for Heide Trask, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 64-51 defeat against East Bladen on the 13th.
