Basketball Recap: Northern Valley Huskies vs. Alma Cardinals

Northern Valley lost against Alma back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Northern Valley Huskies took a blow against the Alma Cardinals, falling 69-27. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 221st in Kansas, while the Cardinals are ranked 48th in Nebraska).

Several Huskies players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tait Thalheim, who posted 14 points. Another player making a difference was Owen Hammond, who earned nine points and six rebounds.

Alma got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Zavier Mitchell out in front who went 8 of 15 on his way to 18 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Tucker Biskup, who went 9 of 13 on his way to 21 points.

Northern Valley has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. As for Alma, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-1.

Northern Valley will venture away from home to take on Cheylin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Alma, they will host Franklin at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in Alma's favor as the team sits on six straight wins at home while Franklin has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road.
