Softball Recap: Middleton Wins Going Away Against Janesville Craig

Middleton never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Janesville Craig Cougars with a sharp 15-0 win. The Cardinals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by 11 runs or more this season.

Not much got past Megan Button, who gave up just two hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep Janesville Craig off the board. Button has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Maggie Zumbrunnen, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI and two runs. Hailey Stroede also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Middleton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive games.

Middleton's record is now 5-1. As for Janesville Craig, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Middleton will challenge rival Sun Prairie East at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Middleton 3, Sun Prairie East 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Janesville Craig is set to take on their familiar foe Vel Phillips Memorial at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
