It was a proper cat-fight when West Broward took on Coral Springs Charter on Thursday. West Broward came up short against Coral Springs Charter, falling 9-3. The Bobcats have struggled against the Panthers recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meetings.
Cheyanne Chaffin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and eight unearned) runs on eight hits.
On the hitting side, Alivia Artanis and Ava Difato stepped up to the plate in a big way. Artanis scored a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Difato got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI. Cyara Geronimo also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, St. Thomas Aquinas posted their closest victory since May 2, 2024 on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Bishop Verot 2-1. The Raiders haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
St. Thomas Aquinas also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Lavinia Miller gave up a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jessica Sacca, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-2.
West Broward's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for St. Thomas Aquinas, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.
St. Thomas Aquinas' hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. West Broward has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for St. Thomas Aquinas, though, as they've been averaging only 3.9 strikeouts. Will West Broward keep running through batters, or will St. Thomas Aquinas buck the trend?
West Broward came out on top in a nail-biter against St. Thomas Aquinas when the teams last played back in February of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for West Broward since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
