Softball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Jonathan Alder

Jonathan Alder waltzed into their contest on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Everything went their way against the Northwestern Warriors as they made off with an 11-4 win. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Pioneers also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Taryn Miller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Riley Magginis was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 12 matchups. Maggie McCoy also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Jonathan Alder lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Jonathan Alder's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Northwestern, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Jonathan Alder will face off against Fairbanks at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their 11th straight victory, something the Pioneers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Northwestern, they will square off against Woodridge at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
