Softball Recap: Western Comes Up Short

Western had lost 11 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped down to 1-12 to make it 12. They fell 10-7 to the Oak Hill Oaks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Oaks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-3 two weeks ago.

As for Oak Hill, their victory ended a 15-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-10. Considering their hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

For Oak Hill's part, Aubrey Miller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven earned runs on ten hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, Oak Hill let Chelcie Fowble and Bristol Stickley run wild. Fowble got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one double, while Stickley got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one double. Another player making a difference was Stella Lester, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Western will venture away from home to take on Green at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bobcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.13 runs per game on average), something the Indians will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Oak Hill, they are taking a road trip to challenge Glenwood at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.53 runs per game on average), something the Oaks will no doubt try to take advantage of.
