Football Recap: Jessica Gutierrez and Hannah Cook Secure Win for Hart + How To Watch

Hart got themselves on the board against Saugus on Wednesday, but Saugus never followed suit. They took down the Centurions 18-0. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Hawks' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 145th, while the Centurions are ranked 487th).

A big part of Hart's win came down to the chemistry between Hannah Cook and her top target Jessica Gutierrez. Cook threw for 134 yards and three TDs while Gutierrez gained 47 total yards and a touchdown. The dominant performance also gave Cook a new career-high in passer rating (87.3).

Hart didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Melodi Mendez and Rylee Prieto. Prieto has been hot recently, having also posted five or more total tackles the last four times she's played.

Hart has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 5.1 points on average over those games. As for Saugus, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Coming up, Hart will head out to face off against Canyon at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Hawks 7.2, the Cowboys 12.7) so any points scored will be well earned. As for Saugus, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 31-6 win against Fillmore on the 4th.
