Basketball Game Preview: Douglass Astros vs. Luella Lions

The Douglass Astros are taking a road trip to challenge the Luella Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Douglass has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Luella will arrive with ten straight wins.

On Saturday, Douglass ended up a good deal behind North Clayton and lost 41-26.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Luella challenged Stephenson on Friday. Luella sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 54-52 victory over Stephenson. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 66th, while the Jaguars are ranked 203rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Douglass better keep an eye on Jasmine Baxter. She was instrumental in Luella's win, dropping a double-double on 28 points and 25 boards. Those 25 rebounds gave Baxter a new career-high. Angel Thomas was another key player, going 6 for 12 en route to 20 points and three steals.

Luella's win was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-3. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.1 points per game. As for Douglass, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9.

Douglass took a serious blow against Luella in their previous meeting last Saturday, falling 74-30. Can Douglass avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
