Basketball Recap: Skyline Takes a Loss

Skyline played a tough matchup on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Fairview Knights and fell 72-39. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 173rd, while the Knights are ranked 29th).

Several Falcons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jamal Gilliam, who went 7-for-12 en route to 16 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jd Wright, who posted nine points and five boards.

Leading Fairview to victory were Spencer Brown and Trevor Ochs. Brown went 10-for-19 to rack up 25 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals, while Ochs went 7-for-8 from beyond the arc on his way to 27 points. Thanks to that strong game, Ochs now owns an excellent 45.3% shooting accuracy. Another player making a difference was Sawyer Dever, who had four points and six boards.

Skyline has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.6 points over those games. As for Fairview, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season.

Skyline has already played their next match, a 64-48 loss against Holy Family on the 14th. As for Fairview, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 63-60 defeat against Monarch on the 13th.
