Football Game Preview: Central Rockets vs. Mater Lakes Academy Bears

The Central Rockets will take on the Mater Lakes Academy Bears at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Central's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed back in March. They blew past Jackson, posting a 33-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Rockets in their matchups with the Generals: they've now won four in a row.

Central can attribute much of their success to Charlondra Victor, who rushed for 60 yards and two TDs on only seven carries. Those two rushing touchdowns gave Victor a new career-high.

Central's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Tmani Cage was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up three sacks herself. She also punched in three rushing touchdowns, which is notable because Central is undefeated when she posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 1-5 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Mater Lakes Academy waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Biggie 33-0. The final result isn't all the surprising considering the Bears' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 67th, while the Biggie are ranked 359th).

Central better keep an eye on Valentina Builes. She was instrumental in Mater Lakes Academy's win, throwing for 167 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 84.6% of her passes.

Mater Lakes Academy pushed their record up to 8-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 6.3 points on average over those games. As for Central, their record now sits at 4-5.
