Baseball Recap: James Lick Comes Up Short

James Lick had lost five straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 3-8 to make it six. They lost 8-2 to the Gunderson Grizzlies. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Grizzlies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-3 on Tuesday.

Anthony Guerrero made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Juan Ecsoto, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.

As for Gunderson, the win got them back to even at 8-8. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by six runs or more this season.

On Gunderson's side, JD Murillo made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Murillo has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Gunderson's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-1 (and 5-7 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Isaiah Chavez, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with five stolen bases and one run. Those five stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Dominic Lake, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.

Coincidentally, James Lick and Gunderson will both be playing Independence the next time they take the field. The Grizzlies will host the 76ers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, while the Comets will host them at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
