Basketball Recap: Maya Hankins' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Crystal City over Bismarck

After flying high against Northwest last Tuesday, Crystal City came back down to earth. The Crystal City Hornets lost 44-22 to the Bismarck Indians on Thursday. The Hornets have struggled against the Indians recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Crystal City's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maya Hankins, who posted four points and nine rebounds. Kadence Buechting was another key player, putting up four points and eight boards.

Bismarck was led to victory by Halie Dickey and Ashley Hawkins. Dickey had 11 points and four steals, while Hawkins dropped a double-double on 12 points and 17 rebounds. Bismarck is 6-3 when Hawkins posts ten or more boards, but 3-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Kinsey Hubbs, who went 5 for 11 en route to 12 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Crystal City's defeat dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Bismarck, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-7.

Crystal City will head out to challenge St. Paul Lutheran/Valle Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Bismarck has already played their next contest (against South Iron), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
