Softball Recap: Providence Day Victorious

Providence Day won against Charlotte Country Day School on Tuesday with two runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Chargers had just enough and edged out the Cannon Cougars 2-1. This was a revenge game for the Chargers: when they faced off against the Cougars on April 7th, they had to take a 8-4 loss.

Rachel Lyons spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on seven hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

The victory made it two in a row for Providence Day and bumps their season record up to 9-6. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.5 runs across that stretch. As for Cannon, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-5.

Coming up, Providence Day will be playing in front of their home fans against Wesleyan Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Cannon, they will head out to face off against Covenant Day at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season.
