The Montour Spartans are taking a road trip to take on the Chartiers Valley Colts at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Montour's pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so Chartiers Valley's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Tuesday, Montour beat McKeesport 5-1. The win continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won four in a row.
Matteo Weber was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.
Meanwhile, Chartiers Valley got themselves on the board against Freedom Area on Tuesday, but Freedom Area never followed suit. They walked away with a 5-0 victory over the Bulldogs.
Not much got past Nate Colberg, who gave up just two hits and racked up 13 Ks to keep Freedom Area off the board. Colberg has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jackson Schultz was a standout: he went 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jared Pryor, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Chartiers Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive contests.
Montour's record is now 8-5. As for Chartiers Valley, their record now sits at 4-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Montour has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Chartiers Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Montour's way against Chartiers Valley in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, as Montour made off with an 8-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
