Football Game Preview: Lejeune Devilpups vs. Southside Seahawks

The Lejeune Devilpups will square off against the Southside Seahawks at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Lejeune managed to slip by Pamlico County the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Devilpups came up short against the Hurricanes on Thursday, falling 42-19. The Devilpups were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-7.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Cameron McKinnis, who picked up 135 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Grady Mahaffey was another key passer, throwing for 197 yards and three TDs on only 17 passes.

Meanwhile, Southside fell victim to Northside - Pinetown and their airtight defense on Friday. They took a blow against the Panthers, falling 35-0. Having soared to a lofty 44 points in the game before, the Seahawks' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Lejeune dropped their record down to 1-8 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Southside, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.

Lejeune strolled past Southside when the teams last played back in October of 2024 by a score of 29-14. Will the Devilpups repeat their success, or do the Seahawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
