Basketball Recap: Janyia Scott's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Wharton over Plant

It was a proper cat-fight when Wharton took on Plant on Thursday. The Wharton Wildcats lost 55-29 to the Plant Panthers. The Wildcats were not able to make up for their loss to the Panthers from their previous meeting back in January of 2024.

Wharton's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Janyia Scott, who posted 11 points and three steals. Scott has been hot for a while, having posted three or more steals the last nine times she's played. Kaytee Tyler was another key player, putting up seven points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Plant to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sanae Graham, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 17 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Madelyn Galuski, who went 5 for 8 on her way to 13 points along with five rebounds and four steals.

Wharton's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-7. As for Plant, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 8-10.

Wharton didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 57-39 defeat against Sickles on the 21st. As for Plant, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 70-55 loss against Venice on the 17th.
