Softball Recap: South Portland Red Riots vs. Deering Rams
South Portland gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Saturday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Deering Rams a 9-0 shutout. That result was just more of the same for these two, as South Portland also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2023.
Baylie Littlefield was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Littlefield was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ella Nickerson, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Phoebe Dodge was another key contributor, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-1.
South Portland will have a chance to go back-to-back against Deering: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 11:30 a.m. on Monday.
