Baseball Recap: Waverly Wins Going Away Against Hastings

While Waverly put up some runs on Saturday, the same can't be said for Hastings. The Vikings were the clear victors by an 8-0 margin over the Tigers. Considering the Vikings have won six matches by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Not much got past Owen Glassburner, who gave up just three hits to keep Hastings off the board.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Crew Verkamp, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Connor Gunderson, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Waverly is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Hastings, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-4.

Waverly didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 15-4 victory against Lincoln Northwest on the 12th. As for Hastings, they will challenge Blair at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Bears have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.25 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
