Basketball Recap: Mt. Clemens Battling Bathers vs. Michigan Collegiate Cougars
After a string of six wins, the Mt. Clemens Battling Bathers's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 38-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of Michigan Collegiate. Mt. Clemens was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Several Battling Bathers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Leah Williams, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds. Le'ila Sears was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with 12 rebounds and six blocks.
Mt. Clemens' defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-5. As for Michigan Collegiate, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5.
Mt. Clemens will take on the Navigators at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Henry Ford Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Michigan Rankings (they are ranked 638th, while the Battling Bathers are ranked 221st). Michigan Collegiate will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on the on March 4th.
