Baseball Game Preview: Hillsboro-Deering Hillcats vs. Kearsarge Cougars

The Hillsboro-Deering Hillcats will face off against the Kearsarge Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

On Monday, Hillsboro-Deering didn't have quite enough to beat Somersworth and fell 7-6. The Hillcats have struggled against the Toppers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Seth Dalphond made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three doubles and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Perrin, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Kearsarge was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hopkinton.

Isaac Knox spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered six earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, Ethan St Clair was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Jackson Cote was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI.

Hillsboro-Deering's loss dropped their record down to 1-12. As for Kearsarge, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-11.

Hillsboro-Deering skirted past Kearsarge 7-6 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Hillcats repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
