Football Recap: Lee's Summit Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with Liberty North

Lee's Summit faced Liberty North in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Tigers were just a hair shy of victory and fell 35-34 to the Eagles. On the bright side, the 34- point effort marked the Tigers' highest-scoring matchup to date.

Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Max Trillo, who picked up 119 receiving yards and three TDs. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 80 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Hatfield, who gained 216 total yards.

Zemar Cheatam was his usual excellent self, rushing for 109 yards and a pair of scores for Liberty North.

Lee's Summit's loss was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Liberty North, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lee's Summit will challenge Lee's Summit West at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers will be up against the Titans' rather soft defense (which has allowed 30 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Liberty North, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Staley at 7:00 p.m. on October 3.
