Basketball Recap: Cameron Newman's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Gaston Christian over Concord Academy

Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Tuesday. Gaston Christian took a 68-52 bruising from Concord Academy. The matchup marked Gaston Christian's lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Gaston Christian's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cameron Newman, who posted six points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. Newman is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Brayden Milner, who had seven points and ten boards.

Concord Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Lincoln Raper out in front who went 8-for-14 on his way to 22 points and six rebounds. Thanks to that strong game, Raper now owns an excellent 40.4% three-point shooting accuracy. Cruz Miller was another key player, putting up 14 points and six boards.

Having lost for the first time this season, Gaston Christian fell to 13-1. As for Concord Academy, their record now sits at 11-1.

Gaston Christian and Concord Academy should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. The Eagles (ranked third) will meet Hickory Grove Christian (ranked 36th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Concord Academy will challenge SouthLake Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (2 vs. 102).
