Basketball Game Preview: Douglas County West Falcon vs. Fort Calhoun Pioneers

The Douglas County West Falcon will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Fort Calhoun Pioneers at 6:00 p.m.

After dropping their season opener at home, Fort Calhoun is headed out to face a Falcon squad ready to give their home crowd a win. Douglas County West fell 46-36 to Gretna on Friday. While the Falcon didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Dragons 15-11 in the first quarter.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Ella Wiese, who posted 12 points. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in assists (two). Another player making a difference was Addison Strong, who put up nine points.

Meanwhile, Fort Calhoun put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their game with ease, bagging a 55-24 win over Conestoga. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Pioneers have posted against the Cougars since February 2, 2019.

Fort Calhoun's win came from a few key players Douglas County West will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Ansley Elofson, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 boards. Elofson is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Raeann Massey was another key player, putting up 11 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals.

Douglas County West might still be hurting after the 68-44 loss they got from Fort Calhoun when the teams last played back in January. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Douglas County West was down 39-19.
