Baseball Recap: Evan Mattern Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Clearfield

Bellefonte proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 11) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They never let the Clearfield Bison get on the board and left with a 1-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Raiders in their matchups with the Bison: they've now won four in a row.

The result came thanks to Zach Lehman's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up nine Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Bellefonte is 6-3 when he allows at most one walk, but 4-5 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Bellefonte's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Evan Mattern, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Bellefonte's record is now 10-8. As for Clearfield, their loss dropped their record down to 9-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bellefonte will head out to take on Central Mountain at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Clearfield, they will venture away from home to square off against Punxsutawney at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bison's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Chucks have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season.
