Baseball Recap: Floyd Takes a Loss

Floyd was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 17th straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against the Melrose Buffaloes, falling 20-7. On the bright side, the seven- run effort marked the Broncos' highest-scoring matchup to date.

Adan Nieto and Logan Van Leuven did some serious damage despite the final result: Nieto scored two runs while going 3-for-3, while Van Leuven scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Those runs were Nieto's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Daxton Kuchta, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Floyd's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Melrose, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-4 record this season.

Coincidentally, Floyd and Melrose will both be playing Elida the next time they take the field. The Buffaloes will head out to face the Tigers at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, while the Broncos will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
