Basketball Game Preview: Mullen Mustangs vs. Smoky Hill Buffaloes

Mullen is 2-8 against Smoky Hill since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Mullen Mustangs will challenge the Smoky Hill Buffaloes at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Mullen took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They took down Cherokee Trail 69-50.

Mullen relied on the efforts of Grayson Bauer, who went 9-for-13 en route to 25 points and three steals, and Ben Medina, who went 6-for-13 to rack up 15 points in addition to five rebounds and five steals. The dominant performance gave Bauer a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Sam Schwertner, who posted seven points.

Meanwhile, Smoky Hill earned a 64-54 win over Overland on Wednesday. The Buffaloes haven't had any issues with the Trailblazers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Smoky Hill's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.3 points over those games. As for Mullen, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 9-11.

Mullen was dealt a bruising 78-48 loss at the hands of Smoky Hill in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Can Mullen avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
