National rushing leader breaks Mississippi single-season record with 3,678 yards and 34 touchdowns.

Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2020 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.

Marquis Crosby of Presbyterian Christian is the 2020 MaxPreps Mississippi High School Football Player of the Year. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound senior running back set a state record by rushing for 3,678 yards while scoring 34 touchdowns. He bettered the mark of 3,517 set in 2019 by Cameron Thomas of Picayune.

Crosby averaged 283 yards rushing per game with a high of 502 yards and six touchdowns in a 49-32 win over Simpson Academy. The Louisiana Tech signee rushed for at least 118 yards in each game, 10 times going over 200 yards and five times rushing for more than 300 yards.

He led the Bobcats to an 8-5 record and their first playoff win in 13 seasons with a 49-24 win over Oak Forest Academy, when he rushed for 426 yards and five touchdowns.

Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released Jan. 29.
