Modesto Christian (Modesto, Calif.) and
Hughson (Calif.) both had great defensive games, but Modesto Christian was able to break through the stalemate for a 7-6 win.
The Crusaders scored on a rushing touchdown to pull out the win.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Andre Edwards in the first quarter, Modesto Christian was up 7-0 at the half.
MC saw its 7-point halftime lead fall to one entering the fourth.
Hughson's only touchdown came on a 16-yard run by
Tanner Duron in the third quarter.
The Modesto school went into the matchup giving up only 17.7 points per game. Hughson's six points were well below their season average of 35.4 per game.
The Crusaders also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 30-28.
The defeat comes as a step back for Hughson, which notched a 42-27 victory over Orestimba in its previous outing.
In a Trans Valley League game next week Modesto Christian (5-3) takes on Escalon, and Hughson (5-3) will go up against Riverbank also in a Trans Valley League game.
