Baseball Recap: Broaddus Gets the Win

Broaddus won the last time they faced Martinsville and things went their way on Friday too. Broaddus blew past Martinsville 22-12. With that victory, the Bulldogs brought their scoring average up to 7.5 runs per game.

Aiden Sowell was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing five bases while going 2-for-5. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

In other batting news, Trenton Sowell was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in five of his seven plate appearances. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Greyson Warden, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances.

Broaddus was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .514. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .355 or higher in three consecutive matches.

Broaddus' first win this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Martinsville, their loss was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Broaddus will take on Neches at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Martinsville, they are headed away from home for the first time to take on Centerville at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Martinsville's pitchers better be ready for this one: Centerville has averaged an impressive 9.6 runs per game this season.
